Where Does A Smile Start?

I had the opportunity to see Rebbitzen Esther Jungreis speak last night. She is an amazing woman who travels the world sharing inspirational messages. The story she told us touched my heart and I wanted to share it with you.

Before I go ahead, there is something you need to know about Rebbitzen Jungreis. When she enters the room, you can feel it. She carries an energy of loving kindness. People around her listen and smile.  She has a magnetic attraction.

Rebbitzen Jungreis met a young woman who asked her an important question. She inquired, “Rebbitzen, where does a smile start? Does it begin at the mouth or in the heart?” The Rebbitzen paused and said “What an incredible question!”

She replied that “A smile starts at the mouth.” You have to realize that the Rebbitzen is a holocaust survivor and has experienced incredible hardships in her life. She has many worries, fears and sad memories. The Rebbitzen continued, “A smile begins at the mouth. Then, it travels to the other person’s mouth. And then, it goes back into my heart.”

How beautiful! It is through giving happiness that we experience happiness. And we don’t need to be happy at that moment to give happiness to others. And giving happiness to others can be so simple! As simple as a smile or a compliment can make somebody’s day.

Make somebody smile today and see how it makes you feel!
